About

The Social Justice History Project is a space to gather information about my research and public collaboration projects. I teach and research history and labor studies at the University of California, Los Angeles, chair of the Labor Studies undergraduate program, and associate director of the Institute for Research on Labor & Employment.

My latest book, Labor’s Mind: A History of Working-class Intellectual Life, explores working-class self-education in the early 20th century North America. My first book, Indispensable Outcasts is a study of the migrant workers of the early 20th century known popularly as “hobos.” It won a few prizes.

You can find me on Twitter: @TobiasHigbie and at the UCLA History Department.
