Taken in the 50's, this photo suggests a major shift in the ethnic make up of the janitors' union in Los Angeles. By 1990 the workforce was predominately Latino. Los Angeles has one of the largest African American communities in California. African American workers built strong unions in Los Angeles and still continue to fight for workers' rights and civil rights.
