"Employers Trip on Amnesty Law Bias Provision," Los Angeles Times, May 5, 1988. p. 38

Description

As a part of the Immigration Reform and Control Act of 1986 it became illegal for employers to knowingly hire illegal aliens. immigrants' rights groups feared that this provision of IRCA was going to usher in a new wave of racist hiring practices because employers would stop hiring any legal residents or US citizens that "looked" illegal. This article details how one government agency brought charges against three Southland firms for just such practices.
